We had a lovely, busy Easter weekend! We are enjoying hosting Debbie and her family from California. They flew in on Good Friday and on Easter Saturday we went to Conocoto; the family house in the country. Here I helped Maggi and Tia Terresita make the special soup, called fanesca. This is a 12 grain soup that is cooked for a long time in lots of milk (we used 7 L!) and is served with fish on the top. This is to represent Jesus and his 12 disciples. It is a really delicious soup and is only made during semana santa (Holy Week). Debbie has two children (twins) and they are pictured here very proudly holding one of the chickens that they spent a long time chasing! We also took a photograph of the new maid, Monica, who has come to live and work with Oswaldo's family. She is only 14 years old. The last photograph was taken on Easter Sunday, when we celebrated together with an English roast dinner that I cooked in our apartment.
